Armed robber sought
Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department were seeking a man in connection to an armed robbery at the C&F Store, 2847 North Ave., about 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
The suspect, who said he had a handgun, stole cash and a soda and fled on foot heading west on North Avenue. The suspect is described as being a black male, about 6 feet tall and wearing tan cargo shorts, blue sneakers and sunglasses.
The store reopened about an hour and a half after the incident.
Officers had not located the suspect by Sunday afternoon.
Police Week events slated
Show your support for law enforcement by observing National Police Week this week. Through May 18, residents are asked to honor the 127 law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty in 2012. Residents can show support by wearing blue ribbons and by shining a blue light on homes. Public events this week include:
A proclamation at 9 a.m. today at the Mesa County Commissioners meeting at 544 Rood Ave.
A flag ceremony at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the Grand Junction Police Department, 555 Ute Ave.
Stop by the Police Department at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday for public tours of specialized police vehicles and at 7:30 p.m. for a memorial vigil with the Combined Honor Guard and Rifle Salute Team.
Mesa County Sheriff’s Department did not list its crime reports Sunday.
