Gun arrest in Fruita

Michael J. Carrano, 51, 520 Hazel Circle, was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of felony menacing and prohibited use of weapons.

According to the Fruita Police Department, officers received a report about 7:45 p.m. that Carrano had pointed a gun at a person’s head. Upon arriving at Carrano’s home, officers found him in his garage with bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelling moderately of alcohol, according to an arrest affidavit.

Carrano told officers he’d had a Taurus .38 revolver in his pocket earlier because he “was worried about his step-son’s drug dealing friends,” according to the affidavit, but he didn’t point the gun at anyone.

According to the affidavit, the person told officers that, upon arriving at the house, Carrano pointed the gun at him and said, “I don’t think so.”

Carrano was booked into the Mesa County Jail.
