Man faces assault charges
A 29-year-old Mesa County man arrested on suspicion of strangling a 28-year-old woman after they argued about damage to her phone was released Friday on a personal-recognizance bond.
Gary Ortiz faces second-degree assault and criminal mischief charges, both felonies, as well as misdemeanor counts of assault and domestic violence after the episode in late September, according to an affidavit for Ortiz’s arrest.
The woman told Mesa County sheriff’s deputies that Ortiz broke her phone and attacked her after she implied that she might damage his car, the report said.
Ortiz has been ordered to stay away from the woman, and is due to return to court at 8 a.m. Dec. 2 before District Judge Thomas Deister.
According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office:
■ Shane Luster, 39, is accused of burglary, theft and criminal mischief Nov. 14.
■ Kevin Kinard, 25, is accused of drug- related charges Wednesday.
