Fire in Battlement Mesa

No one was hurt, but two apartments are a total loss and four other units sustained heavy water damage after a fire Sunday afternoon in Battlement Mesa.

Firefighters with the Grand Valley Fire Protection District responded after noon to a structure fire at 854 W. Battlement Parkway. They found one apartment unit in the building consumed with fire, which quickly spread via a common attic space into a nearby apartment. The fire was under control within about a half-hour, and everyone was evacuated from the building. There were no injuries to residents or responding personnel.

As of Sunday evening, the cause of the fire was still under investigation by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.


According to the Grand Junction Police Department:

■ James Farnsworth, 26; Elizabeth Barker, 22; Derek Rust, 25; Cynthia Seriani, 55; and Lucas Doyle, 55, were all arrested Friday on outstanding warrants.

■ Property valued at less than $500 was stolen Thursday from a vehicle in the 500 block of Court Road.

■ A vehicle at 404 Montero St. was burglarized Saturday.

■ Manuel Achuleta, 39, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol in the 2900 block of Unaweep Avenue.

■ A sexual assault on a child is alleged to have occurred in the northeast quadrant of the city.
