Propane tank theft wave

• Since August, around 70 propane tanks from area businesses have been stolen, according to Crime Stoppers of Mesa County.
The Grand Junction Police Department and the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department are searching for a male suspect driving a silver new-model Jeep Liberty who was seen loading propane tanks into his vehicle at one of the crime scenes.
Propane tanks were stolen from: Waste Management at 1227 Winters Ave., Alco Store at 2696 U.S. Highway 50, Diamond Shamrock at 3202 E Road, Ferrellgas at 2844 Interstate 70 Business Loop, Corner Store at 599 29 1/2 Road, and Cameron RV at 2304 U.S. Highway 6 and 50.
Anyone with information on this string of crimes is asked by Crime Stoppers to call 241-7867 or 800-221-7867, text “TIP729” to 274637 or visit The phone lines are not recorded and do not have Caller I.D. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

Plea resolves kidnap case

• A Grand Junction man who was accused of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend accepted a plea deal in which his felony charges were dismissed in exchange for a single misdemeanor charge of violating a protection order.
Joseph Wesley Tucker, 45, was arrested Sept. 4 after he was seen by witnesses carrying a woman across U.S. Highway 50, placing her in his car and driving away. The woman, Tracy Brown, was unharmed, police said.
Tucker will have to serve six months in Mesa County Jail as a condition of the plea agreement.

According to the Grand Junction Police Department:

• Over $1,000 worth of items were stolen from a vehicle in the 500 block of Bookcliff Avenue.

•  McAnthony Gyimah, 18, was issued a summons on suspicion of third-degree assault, causing pain and injury.

•  Brandon Mohr, 22, of Grand Junction, was issued a summons on suspicion of harassment in the 200 block of Pitkin Avenue.

•  Habitual traffic offender Jose Renteria, 29, was issued a summons on suspicion of driving with fictitious plates and having no proof of insurance.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:

•  Damages to a vehicle parked in the 3200 block of F 1/2 Road was estimated at approximately $500.
