Search finds blowtorch
After receiving a call of a possible disturbance Sunday at Walmart, 2881 North Ave., an officer with the Grand Junction Police Department stopped a woman at a bus stop who fit the description of someone who might have been involved.
When questioned, the woman, Brandi Thompson, told police she was at the store, but left after her friends said they would not drive her home, according to her arrest affidavit.
After Thompson, 29, consented to have her purse searched for any possible stolen items, officers found a small bag containing methamphetamine, the affidavit said.
She then was asked if she had anything illegal, she pulled out a blowtorch still in its packaging that later was confirmed as being stolen from the Walmart, the affidavit said. Thompson was jailed on suspicion of shoplifting and possession of a controlled substance.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department:
■ Someone stole items from a vehicle Sunday in the 300 block of Hill View Drive, causing a loss of about $300.
■ Someone stole a vehicle Sunday valued at more than $2,000 from the 1300 block of North 17th Street.
According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office:
■ Austin Steven Tipton, 23, of Grand Junction was jailed Monday on suspicion of vehicular eluding, driving under the influence of alcohol. having an open container in his vehicle, careless driving, no insurance and eluding or attempting to elude a police officer.
