Tractor a factor in bus crash
A slow-moving tractor played a key role in a commuter bus crash on Colorado Highway 82 east of Carbondale Saturday, Colorado State Patrol spokesman Trooper Nate Reid said.
Eleven people were injured when a Roaring Fork Transportation Authority bus struck a concrete barrier and rolled onto its side near mile marker 16 shortly after 7 p.m., Reid said.
The wreck occurred after the westbound bus came up on the westbound tractor, which was equipped with running and flashing lights but not a slow moving vehicle emblem as required by law, he said.
The driver quickly moved the bus into the left-hand lane and it skidded out of control back across the right-hand lane and struck the barrier, Reid said.
All but one of the 12 adult passengers on board were taken to hospitals in Glenwood Springs and Aspen. Three had serious injuries. The male bus driver of had minor injuries and was cleared and released at the scene, Reid said.
