Warrants issued for Grand Junction man

Abel Nunez, 36, Grand Junction, is wanted on two warrants accusing him of vehicular eluding and drug violations, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies tried to arrest Nunez on Saturday night near B Road and 29 Road but was not found, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Anyone with information about his location can call 242-6707.

Fire north of Rifle mostly contained

Most of the firefighters left the 991-acre Colorado Highway 13 Fire burning north of Rifle with the fire 80-percent contained Sunday, according to the Upper Colorado River Interagency Management Unit.

The area that is not contained is a “very steep and rugged section on the southeast corner of the fire,” where ground crews can’t go but where aircraft have dropped materials to prevent the start of fires, the incident commander, Ross Wilmore, said in a release.

Local crews will continue to monitor the blaze, the release said.

According to the Grand Junction Police Department:

■ A juvenile girl was arrested Friday on suspicion of assaulting another juvenile girl in the 1200 block of North Avenue.

■ Someone caused more than $1,000 in damage to a vehicle in the 1600 block of Poplar Drive. The incident was reported Thursday.

■ A firearm was recovered Sept. 27 from the residence of a person with a previous felony conviction. The residence is in the 2800 block of Teller Avenue.
