Man accused of unlawful sexual conduct at mosque

A 26-year-old man was issued a citation on suspicion of unlawful sexual contact Thursday evening, for allegedly grabbing the back side of a woman who was leaving her job cleaning a local mosque.

The woman told police that Adil Liyakatali Shaikh followed her around the mosque, at 801 Gunnison Ave., while she cleaned, and when she collected her supplies and opened the door to leave, Shaikh “grabbed her butt,” according to the summons. “She stated it was not an accident,” an officer wrote.

According to the ticket, Shaikh initially denied touching the woman at all, but then told police two different versions about how he touched the woman.

 

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office:

■ Someone stole items from vehicles in Highline Lake Park on Tuesday.

■ A vehicle was reported stolen in the 3300 block of F Road on Tuesday.

■ A theft from a vehicle was reported in the 2900 block of Orchard Avenue on Tuesday.

■ A theft was reported in the 400 block of 32 Road on Wednesday.

■ A theft from a vehicle was reported in the 500 block of Beverly Lane on Tuesday.

■ A theft was reported in the area of Rabbit Valley on Wednesday.
