Man accused of holding woman in room overnight
A man accused of holding a Grand Junction woman captive in a room for close to seven hours last month has been arrested and could be charged with kidnapping and false imprisonment.
Sebastian Gonzalez, 20, of New Castle, was arrested Monday night in connection with allegations that on Aug. 17, he went to a woman’s home in the 1800 block of East Main Street, took her cellphone and, after an argument, refused to let her leave, an arrest affidavit said.
Gonzalez, who is more than 50 pounds heavier than the 5-foot-1 victim, allegedly grabbed her around the waist and threw her on a bed to prevent her from leaving, the affidavit said. Between 11 p.m. and 5:50 a.m., the woman said Gonzalez kept her in the room at various times by sitting on her, holding her arms and throwing her on the bed or floor. The woman said Gonzalez also hit her several times.
The woman’s infant child was in the room during the incident, the report said.
The woman said Gonzalez told her in the morning “the only way she would be allowed to leave the room” was if she gave him a ride to the library. She did, and eventually Gonzalez got out of the car, the report said.
Gonzalez appeared Tuesday in court and was issued a $5,000 cash or surety bond.
