Meth found in arrest
A 30-year-old man facing drug distribution charges after being found with suspected methamphetamine in his pocket and four guns nearby was issued a $50,000 cash-only bond Thursday in Mesa County court.
Joshuwa Stuart Powers was arrested Wednesday evening after being spotted by a Mesa County sheriff’s deputy at the gas station at 859 Pitkin Ave., according to an arrest affidavit. Powers, who had warrants out for his arrest, was taken out of his vehicle by deputies who noticed a glass pipe and residue fall from his lap, the report said. The deputies found a little more than a quarter-ounce of suspected meth in his breast pocket.
When they searched his car, deputies allegedly found two empty syringes, a loaded syringe, two digital scales and multiple baggies. They also found three rifles and a handgun, as well as a pellet gun and a set of metallic knuckles, the report said. Powers, a convicted felon, is not supposed to be in possession of firearms.
Powers could be charged with drug possession with intent to distribute, weapons possession by a previous offender, a special circumstances charge because of the proximity of the weapons, and other counts.
