Felony DUI charges loom
A 34-year-old man with three drunken-driving convictions was arrested Thursday on suspicion of felony driving under the influence, according to court records.
Juan Castulo Zubiate, who a Mesa County prosecutor said was also out on bond for yet another drunken-driving case from Summit County, was arrested Thursday on Riverside Parkway after allegedly weaving in front of a Colorado State Patrol trooper, an arrest report said.
Zubiate told the trooper who pulled him over that he had smoked marijuana that morning, and he failed roadside sobriety tests, the report said. He could be charged with felony driving under the influence.
Assistant District Attorney Rich Tuttle asked that Zubiate be held on a cash bond.
““This is someone we believe is a risk to the community,” Tuttle said Friday in Mesa County Court. “He’s on bond for DUI and now he’s picked up a new case.”
Public Defender Steve Colvin asked that Zubiate be granted a non-cash-only bond, noting that he is the sole supporter of four children and has a job.
Mesa County Judge Michael Grattan issued Zubiate a $2,500 cash-only bond.
DEA search warrants
Drug Enforcement Administration officials wouldn’t comment on a report by a Grand Junction television station that marijuana plants were seized from an address near 31 and D roads on Friday afternoon.
KKCO/KJCT captured video of an apparent raid Friday at a large greenhouse structure.
DEA spokesman Jim Gothe confirmed Sunday that agents executed a search warrant in the same area and in the same timeframe, but he said the case is under seal and wouldn’t confirm whether any evidence had been seized.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department:
■ Brennich Johnson, 26, was cited on suspicion of public indecency Thursday in the 700 block of Horizon Drive.
■ Kylee Foushi, 19, was cited on suspicion of shoplifting Thursday.
