Biker had heart attack

A Denver-area man who recently died while biking on the bicycle path in Glenwood Canyon suffered a heart attack, the Garfield County Coroner’s Office has determined.

The sheriff’s office took a report last Friday of a bike accident/unattended death in the canyon. But Deputy Coroner Kristin Clifford said Broderick Murphy, 54, “just happened to be riding a bike” when he suffered the heart attack and died of natural causes.

Sex assault alleged


Christopher J. Caldwell, 41, of Rancho Cordova, Calif., was arrested Thursday on suspicion of sexual assault on a child, according to the Montrose County Sheriff’s Department.

Caldwell’s bond was set at $60,000.

Man reports assault


The Grand Junction Police Department is seeking information about three men suspected of assaulting a person at about 2:15 a.m. on Aug. 26.

Two men were walking east on Main Street near Ninth Street early on the morning of Aug. 26 when three males exited a Silver Dodge Charger with two black stripes on it and assaulted one of the men who was walking, according to the police department. The three men left in the vehicle.

According to the Grand Junction Police Department:

■ A known person is being investigated for a suspected sexual assault that may have occurred Saturday in the northwest part of the city.

■ An unknown man unlawfully entered the home of an at-risk adult Tuesday in the northeast part of the city and removed less than $500 worth of property. The man carried burglary tools and used them to cause the victim fear of serious bodily injury.

■ Someone unlawfully entered property Sunday in the 700 block of Scarlet Drive by cutting a fence, causing $50 worth of damage, and stole an item worth more than $1,000.

■ Shastin Chambers-Tappan, 25, of Montrose, was issued a summons Tuesday on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, marijuana and drug paraphernalia at 1910 North Ave.

■ Someone entered unlocked vehicles Tuesday in the 500 block of Sinatra Way and removed less than $500 worth of property.

■ Someone entered a vehicle Tuesday in the 2900 block of Beechwood Street and removed less than $500 worth of property.

■ Someone entered a vehicle Tuesday in the 3100 block of Snowberry Court and removed an item worth less than $500.

■ Someone damaged a vehicle Sunday in the 2000 block of B 1/2 Road and removed items from the vehicle, causing a loss of more than $1,000.


According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:

■ Someone stole a vehicle Sept. 12 in the 600 block of Fort Uncompahgre Drive.

■ Deputies recovered a stolen vehicle Sept. 9 for the Grand Junction Police Department. The vehicle, found off of South 16 1/2 Road on Glade Park, was returned to its owner.

■ Two people were contacted Sept. 13 for a suspected fire violation on Glade Park.

■ A woman reported someone caused approximately $500 worth of damage to her vehicle Sept. 10 in the 300 block of Sunnyside Court.

■ Deputies responded to a report Sept. 11 of items stolen from a vehicle in the 600 block of Oxbow Road.
