Bags of pot tossed from dorm
An 18-year-old Colorado Mesa University student was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly throwing a five-gallon bucket filled with bags of marijuana off a dormitory balcony, an arrest affidavit said.
Lauren Lawson told police who found the bucket laying in the grass next to Piñon Hall that the marijuana was hers. She said she found a large quantity of marijuana inside garbage bags in an alley in Denver and that she intended to sell it, an affidavit said.
“She said she was struggling with paying for school and was going to try and sell the marijuana,” the report said, adding that Lawson said she had planned to “smoke most of it, sell the rest.”
Lawson’s resident assistant reported that the teen’s roommate had noticed a lot of people coming and going from their room since Lawson returned from a visit to Denver.
“She started to smell an odd smell and narrowed the smell down to a blue bucket and a white box stored on the balcony of their room,” the report said.
When the resident assistant came to talk to Lawson, she allegedly pitched both items and a combined total of 10 to 11 ounces of marijuana over the balcony.
Lawson, who police noted was “very forthcoming,” was arrested on suspicion of drug possession with intent to distribute, tampering and underage marijuana possession. She was released Wednesday afternoon on a personal-recognizance bond.
