Jennifer Peltier

Teacher suspected after

alleged harassment of ex

A kindergarten teacher was suspended from her job earlier this week and appeared before a judge Friday on a possible harassment charge, for allegedly using her daughter’s cellphone to send dozens of harassing messages to her ex-husband on school property during the school day.

Jennifer Peltier, 50, Grand Junction, is believed to have sent 29 separate harassing messages to her ex on Sept. 8 from her daughter’s cellphone. The alleged victim used a locator app to pinpoint where the phone was that day, and data showed the messages were sent from Pear Park Elementary, where Peltier was employed as a teacher. Investigators later determined that she was the one who had possession of the phone that day.

Peltier’s ex-husband said in court Friday that it was particularly troubling how Peltier convinced their daughter to lie about sending the texts, and that the 17-year-old girl was mirroring Peltier’s “destructive, dysfunctional behavior.”

A judge issued Peltier a personal-recognizance bond in her case, and a spokesperson for School District 51 said Peltier was placed on administrative leave on Tuesday because of questions about her conduct on the job.
