Homeless man suspected of setting Dumpster fire
Grand Junction police officers arrested a homeless man on Thursday after witnesses identified him as the person who had lit a Dumpster on fire near the Greyhound Bus Station in the 200 block of South Fifth Street. Loren Hunter, 59, was arrested for intentionally setting the Dumpster ablaze and the arresting officer believed it is likely he was responsible for another Dumpster fire the previous week.
After the Grand Junction Fire Department left the scene, the officer waited to see if anyone returned to the Dumpster. He then saw a man approach, put his hand in the trash bin and saw a light spark up. A witness at the scene then identified Hunter as the suspect.
Hunter refused to speak with police and was not cited in the fire the week prior. Hunter is already on parole for arson.
