Scam phone call reported

Fruita’s police department is warning residents not to offer personal information over the phone after a resident received a suspicious phone call.

The Fruita resident reported receiving a call from a person with a foreign accent saying the man needed a new Medicare card. The caller was seeking to verify information such as the man’s name, Social Security number, home address and bank routing number.

The Fruita resident then relayed the incident to the Social Security Administration who told the resident it was a scam.

“To avoid becoming a victim, please do not release any personal information over the phone unless you generated the call,” the Fruita Police Department said in a press release.

Tips sought in Aug. 6 arson

 

Mesa County Crime Stoppers is seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the suspects involved in an arson.

Just after 10 p.m. Aug. 6, someone set fire to a cardboard box inside Colorado West Fire Protection, 1410 Motor St. The east exterior wall awning also had been set on fire and several fire extinguishers were discharged inside the building. Total estimated damage and property loss is more than $1,000.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:

■ Deputies responded to the 2900 block of Dawn Drive on a report of an assault on Saturday. Deputies located the victim of the assault, however he declined to provide any details of the incident and the case was closed.

■ Deputies took a report of a theft in the 2900 block of Dawn Drive on Friday. The victim did not provide any suspect information but requested the incident be documented.

 

According to the Grand Junction Police Department:

■ Someone stole items valued at less than $2,000 from a vehicle parked in the 700 block of North White Avenue on Saturday.

■ Two girls, both 13, received summonses on suspicion of marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia in the 800 block of Gunnison Avenue on Tuesday.

■ Property valued at less than $1,000 was stolen from a home in the 800 block of South Fourth Street on Aug. 2.
