Theft report goes nowhere

Police closed as inactive a report that an ex-employee of a Grand Junction tire store stole more than $30,000 from the store before being fired in August.

A Grand Junction police officer received a report Aug. 10 from the store that the ex-employe of Commercial Tire Service, 725 23 1/2 Road, allegedly “did deals ‘under the table’” while working as a salesman, a report said.

The person who called police reported that he became suspicious after reviewing accounting records that seemed to demonstrate the employee was having customers pay checks directly to himself.

The reporting party told the officer he was “getting documents together. I informed him that without the supporting documents, I cannot complete this report,” the officer wrote.
