Suspected thief arrested

Ian Albert McKinney, 23, a transient, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of vehicle trespassing, criminal impersonation, theft of between $500 and $1,000, obstruction of an officer and criminal mischief of between $500 and $1,000.

McKinney allegedly broke into two vehicles in the alley in the 2400 block of Teller Avenue and stole items from each vehicle, according to the Grand Junction Police Department. When officers found McKinney, he allegedly had in his possession a car stereo, several used lottery cards, a CD holder and CDs, a pay slip, a computer game, cologne and a pocket knife, according to his arrest affidavit.

Initially when he was arrested, McKinney told officers a fictitious name to prevent them from knowing he was wanted on four warrants, the Police Department said.

While McKinney was being medically evaluated at St. Mary’s Hospital after his arrest, McKinney obstructed emergency medical personnel from doing their duty, the Police Department said.
