Structure fire claims a life
A structure fire Tuesday on Seventh Street in New Castle resulted in a fatality, according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff’s Department did not identify the victim in a news release late Tuesday night. The cause of the fire also remained unknown.
Dispatchers took the call for the fire at about 5:34 p.m. The Burning Mountains Fire Department responded, along with New Castle police, the Sheriff’s Department, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, West Care Ambulance and the American Red Cross. First Baptist Church on Seventh Street also provided support and resources.
Assault, robbery reported
Pedro Morales Jr., 19, 2993 Kia Drive, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant at 3140 Open Meadow Court on suspicion of second-degree kidnapping, robbery and third-degree assault. He is being held in the Mesa County Jail on $170,000 bond.
According to an arrest affidavit, the 23-year-old victim told police he got into a Dodge Durango on the night of Oct. 26, following a fight at an apartment complex near 29 Road and Orchard Avenue. The man told police that Morales, driving the Durango, headed north on 29 Road, and Morales and three other men in the vehicle began punching him. He said he eventually blacked out, awoke in the hospital and realized his wallet, driver’s license and $475 in cash were missing.

Someone stole a vehicle from the 3600 block of Senna Way on Tuesday.
According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:
A man living in the 400 block of Alamo Drive reported Tuesday there are people in Meadowvale Park at all hours of the night smoking something behind a large cottonwood tree. The man requested extra patrol in the neighborhood.
