$1,000 car stolen

Someone stole a vehicle valued at more than $1,000 from the 500 block of West Ute Avenue on Tuesday, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:

Jacob Ray Gilbert, 18, homeless, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of vehicle trespassing and tampering.

Deputies saw a toddler near the road at Topaz Drive and Diamond Court on Tuesday afternoon. The child’s father came and retrieved his child immediately after deputies saw the child. The father told deputies he was cleaning the backyard when the child walked through an open gate. No further action was taken.

Deputies were dispatched to Liberty Cap trail head on Tuesday on reports that a bicycle had been locked to a sign at the trailhead for a couple days. The bicycle wasn’t stolen, and there are no recent reports of missing people in Mesa County.
