Blue Angels, many others to fill GJ skies

Look up. A multitude of aircraft and parachutes are scheduled to take over the sky above Grand Junction during the West Star Aviation Air Show from Friday through Sunday, Sept. 21–23, at the Grand Junction Regional Airport.

From the choreographed maneuvering of the Blue Angels pilots to the skilled jumping of the all-female Misty Blues Skydiving Team, 13 different aviation groups will perform at this year’s air show.

In addition to the Blue Angels and Misty Blues, the other performers scheduled to participate in the air show are: U.S. Marines V-22 Osprey, Indy Boys, Black Daggers Parachute Demonstration Team, Tim Weber Air Shows, Bill Leff Airshows, Dan Buchanan, Rower Air Shows, Otto the Helicopter, GJ Modeleers, Super Hornet demonstration and Wildhorse Aviation.

The Friday show will begin at 6 p.m. with fireworks scheduled at 9:30 p.m. Most acts will perform the first night but not the Blue Angels.

General admission tickets for Friday are $20 for adults at the gate. Children of all ages are free. Parking is $10 per vehicle and seating is limited so people should bring a folding chair or lawn chair.

Pets, glass, alcohol and coolers are prohibited.

Doors open at 9 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday with all acts set to perform both days.

The Blue Angels are expected to take to the skies about 3 p.m. each day, but performance times are not on a strict schedule.

Tickets for Saturday or Sunday shows are $25 for adults and $10 for children ages 6–12. Those 5 and younger are free.

For information on the specific acts as well as information about how best to spectate at the airport, pick up a guide to the event that was part of the Sunday, Sept. 16, issue of The Daily Sentinel or go to http://www.gjairshow.com.
