Bodies of father, boy found away from vehicle

GLENWOOD SPRINGS — The bodies of a father and son were found separated from their vehicle after it went down a mountainside north of Glenwood Springs early Monday, authorities say.

The Garfield County Coroner’s Office has identified the victims as James Blissett, 41, and Jessy Blissett, 9, of Lakewood. They died of blunt force trauma, said deputy coroner Chandra Mortensen.

The two died sometime between midnight and 1 a.m. Monday morning after leaving their hunting camp between 11:30 p.m. and midnight Sunday night.

Their vehicle went down a 700-foot mountainside in the Windy Point area on the Transfer Trail four-wheel-drive road nine miles north of Glenwood Springs. Mortensen said crews had not found the vehicle, a modified Jeep, as of early Tuesday afternoon. The search has been hampered by snowy weather.

Mortensen said she didn’t know why the Blissetts decided to leave camp and drive the difficult road at that hour.

Toxicology test results could take a few weeks to get back, she said.
