Body of missing man from Palisade found

A Palisade man who was reported missing about a month ago was found dead over the weekend, although police don’t suspect foul play.

The body of David Martineau, 42, was found east of town near the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and River Road, Palisade police officer Kameron Dole said Monday.

Authorities didn’t immediately indicate how Martineau died.

Dole said the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department is handling the investigation because Martineau’s body was found outside town limits. Sheriff’s spokeswoman Heather Benjamin said she didn’t have any information about the case Monday evening.

Martineau was reported missing after leaving his home near First Street and Peach Avenue on foot Jan. 7.

Officials said he left his belongings, including his cell phone, wallet, bicycle and vehicle.

Police Chief Carroll Quarles said Martineau appeared to have been depressed about “circumstances” in his life.
