Body recovered from Eagle River

The body of an Aspen area man was recovered from the Eagle River shortly before noon Saturday.

The man, who was in his 40s, was rafting with two friends when their raft overturned in the high water. The two friends escaped the rapids and called for help, according to the Eagle County Sheriff’s Department.

The man, whose name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was an experienced rafter who was wearing a personal flotation device, according to department officials.

Rescue workers from the county, Vail, Avon and Minturn assisted in the recovery of the body.
