Boy alleges 873 sexual assaults by Delta man
A boy told a Delta Police Department investigator he was sexually assaulted 873 times, over the course of at least four years, by a man he once lived with.
Jeffrey L. Bigham, 47, of Delta, is expected to appear today in a Delta courtroom for a bond hearing. He was being held on $150,000 bond at the Delta County Jail. Bigham was arrested Feb. 15.
Staff at the Delta County Combined Courthouse on Tuesday released a heavily redacted version of Bigham’s arrest warrant affidavit.
Bigham declined to be interviewed by a police investigator two days prior to his arrest, the affidavit said.
According to the affidavit, the boy told an investigator that Bigham molested him repeatedly starting when the boy was 11 years old, continuing through his sophomore year in high school. The boy lived with Bigham and a woman through October 2010, the affidavit said.
” ... During the seventh grade, Jeff assaulted him seven to eight times a week, every week, which is estimated to be 365 times,” the affidavit said.
The boy alleged Bigham would take him into a bathroom or bedroom or drive the boy to Delta’s Confluence Park and molest him while reading pornographic magazines.
The boy estimated there were “three to four” occasions when he told Bigham “no,” and the assaults stopped.
On one occasion, a woman who lived with Bigham walked in on him as Bigham was assaulting the boy in the bathroom, the affidavit said. She later told police she didn’t know what was happening between Bigham and the boy.
The affidavit said Bigham acknowledged the incidents to another party who was interviewed by police. He told another witness he was sorry, “and that he should have never stepped across that line,” the affidavit said.
Bigham was being held on 873 counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in position of trust.
