Bresnan optimistic about renewals after agreement with NBC station
Bresnan Communications has reached a deal with Grand Junction’s NBC affiliate, the company’s corporate spokesman confirmed Wednesday.
Spokesman Shawn Beqaj also said he is sure Bresnan will reach renewal agreements with CBS,
Fox and ABC affiliates for carrying their signals on the local cable television system.
“We anticipate reaching a agreement that will be fair with the broadcasters, Bresnan and our customers,” he said.
Ron Tillery, general manager for KREX-TV (CBS) and KFQX-TV (FOX), said Bresnan Communications and the channels’ parent company, Hoak Media of Colorado, have been unable to agree on the fair fee for retransmitting the local stations’ signals.
Every three years, local TV stations renegotiate the per-subscriber, per-month fee cable companies pay to carry their signals.
Beqaj declined to discuss the contractual impasse described by Tillery.
“We don’t seek advantage by negotiating private agreements in the press,” he said.
The general manager at KJCT-TV, the ABC affiliate, has said a deal is in the works for its contract to be renewed before the year’s end.
