Speaker to recount

Grand Canyon flood

The author of “The Emerald Mile” will discuss the fastest ride ever through the Grand Canyon — on the flow of the 1983 flood, in an appearance Thursday in the Colorado Mesa University ballroom.

Admission to the event with Kevin Fedarko is free.

Online registration is encouraged and will be rewarded with a free drink donated by the Palisade Brewing Co.

Fedarko’s appearance is sponsored by the CMU Water Center and begins at 6:30 p.m. with a reception.

Event for project honoring veterans

A ceremony to dedicate a new solar-powered streetlight installed in honor of veterans everywhere has been scheduled for next month.

The Veterans Memorial Light — located along the Riverfront Trail near the Clifton Nature Park — will be dedicated on May 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The closest intersection to the light’s location is 32 3/8 and D roads.
