Botanical Gardens’ new hours
From December through February, the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens and Gift Shop, at South Seventh Street and the Riverside Parkway, will operate with winter hours of 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only.
The Gardens’ facilities will still be available for tour groups, classes and private special events on closure days with special advance arrangements.

Government offices close early
All of the Clerk and Recorder offices will close at 3 p.m. Dec. 12 for an all staff meeting and additional training.
All offices of the Clerk to Board, Motor Vehicle, Elections and Recording will close early that day.
Early learning grants given
WASHINGTON—Five states are being awarded a share of $133 million in federal grants for early childhood learning.
Colorado, Illinois, New Mexico, Oregon and Wisconsin will each get $20 million to $34 million in four-year grants. It’s part of President Barack Obama’s Race to the Top program, funded by the Education and Health and Human Services Departments.
The awards were announced Thursday.
Kaiser announces 500 jobs
DENVER—Kaiser Permanente says it’s hiring 500 people at a new information technology campus it is opening in the south Denver suburbs.
The health-care provider announced Thursday that the campus is opening in January in Englewood and that the company has begun recruiting and hiring.
