Rio Blanco forum
on jobs, tourism

The public is invited to a citizens forum Saturday on Rio Blanco County economic development.

The event will focus on how to create jobs and promote tourism, including through restoring historic downtown areas. It will be from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Meeker Hotel, and is sponsored by the Rio Blanco County Citizens for Economic Development.

Representatives from the Colorado Tourism Office and Delta County have been invited to discuss successful programs in other rural communities. Other invitees include representatives of the Colorado Commission on Agriculture; the state Office of Economic Development and International Trade’s Colorado Creative Industries, which will discuss designation of a creative district; and History Colorado, which will cover nominations of historic places and districts.

Public comments also will be sought.

The meeting can be heard via teleconference. For information, call 970-878-4832 or e-mail .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Family needs help with medical costs

A donation account has been set up to benefit Micah Montag, a 9-year-old who was diagnosed earlier this month with DIPG, an inoperable form of brain cancer.

Montag is at the Denver Children’s Hospital undergoing radiation treatment. The donation account has been set up by a family friend to help with the medical expenses. Donations can be made at any Wells Fargo Bank to the Montag Family Donation account.
