BLM closes roads to vehicles for season

• The Bureau of Land Management Grand Junction Field Office has closed the following BLM roads to motorized vehicles for the winter: Beehive, Grand Mesa Slope, Lands End, Chalk Mountain, Sunnyside, Big Salt Wash/Coal Gulch, Blue Mesa, Demaree and Rapid Creek. The roads likely will reopen April 30.
Coal Canyon Road in the Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Area will be closed through May 30.
The closure protects big game winter range and prevents road damage. All areas will remain open to foot traffic and horseback riding.

Republican women holiday luncheon set

• The Mesa County Republican Women will have their Christmas Cheer luncheon at noon Friday, at Two Rivers Convention Center. Music and poetry will be performed by Peggy Malone. Cost is $12 per person and reservations are required by calling 248-0815.

Wildlife panel to meet Dec. 11 in Redvale

• The Colorado Wildlife Commission will have a meeting at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Redvale Community Center. Robert Bray, chairman of the wildlife commission, and Dick Ray, a Pagosa Springs outfitter, will lead the discussion. For information, call 970-375-6708.
