Bennet GJ meeting Monday

•  Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., will meet with community leaders and residents from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Museum of the West.
Bennet originally had scheduled the meeting Tuesday but rescheduled it because of President Obama’s planned trip to Denver that day.

McGinnis on dean’s list

•  Joshua McGinnis was named to the dean’s list at Fort Lewis College. McGinnis is a senior majoring in business finance with a minor in Spanish.

Leachman picks Ariz. school

•  Kendra Leachman of Central High School will attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Ariz., in the fall and study aeronautical science. Leachman is the daughter of Debi Nagle.

GJ offices closed; parking free

•  City of Grand Junction offices will be closed Monday for the Presidents Day holiday. The City Council workshop and meeting have been canceled. Trash and recycling will remain on regular schedule. There will be free parking downtown and in the Rood Avenue parking garage.

Coleman honored at academy

•  Darin S. Coleman of Grand Junction has received a Gold Star at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Coleman is the son of Scott and Suzey Coleman and a graduate of Grand Junction High School.

Aspinall EIS meeting April 8

•  A public hearing to discuss the draft of the Aspinall Environmental Impact Statement will take place at 6:30 p.m. April 8 at the Bill Heddles Recreation Center, 530 Gunnison River Drive, in Delta. The plan is available for preview at or by calling 248-0625.

Reading tutor training Feb. 24

•  Sheryl Fitzgerald, retired bilingual teacher, will lead a reading tutor training session from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Mesa County RSVP office, 422 White Ave.
The class will include test-taking skills, how to support literacy development in young students and a discussion about what today’s classroom may look like. Free lunch is included. For information, call 243-9839.
