Prom dress giveaway Friday

The fifth annual Prom Dress Giveaway Party, hosted by The Tree House Center for Youth, is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hampton Inn, 205 Main St.

Any young lady in need of help with a prom dress this season is invited. Dresses and accessories will be given away, with no requirements or appointment necessary.

DNA child safety event set

 

Grand Junction Subaru will host the free DNA LifePrint Child Safety Event from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 2496 U.S. Highway 6&50.

The program provides parents with vital tools recommended by the FBI and the Department of Justice in the event a child goes missing.

Parents who bring their children will receive an FBI-certified Biometric 10-digit fingerprint profile, a high resolution, full color digital photograph of a child, a child safety journal and a Home DNA Identification Kit. There is no databasing and all records of the visit is given to the parent to take home.

Learn about microscopic life

 

“It’s Alive!” a program about biological soil crust and microscopic organisms that call the crust home, will be presented from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Saddlehorn Visitor Center, at Colorado National Monument.

Aparna Palmer from Colorado Mesa University will conduct a short walk on the Alcove Nature Trail, followed by an indoor presentation. Microscopes will be available to get a close up view of the critters.

Montrose sets youth event

 

The city of Montrose Youth Council will sponsor a Teen Opportunity Expo from 4 to 8 p.m. March 28 in the Montrose High School cafeteria.

Area youth ages 14-19 are invited to attend the free event to visit with local business and organizations representatives for summer jobs, volunteering and internships, attend the workshops and listen to guest speakers.
