Rhythms for Africa, a benefit concert for HopeWest’s partnership with a hospice organization in rural Tanzania, is set for 6 tonight, at the Colorado Mesa University Ballroom.
The concert will feature Hazel Miller, a dessert-bar reception, a silent auction and performances by the Grand Junction Academy of Dance and the Grand Junction High School Westwinds.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the HopeWest office or at the door. Proceeds will go to purchase bicycles and waterproof boots for 55 volunteer caregivers in Tanzania. Call 683-4921 for information.
Aid for Kids Voting
Kids Voting Mesa County is holding a special fundraiser from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Springhill Suites, 236 Main St.
The organization has run into some financial troubles recently, in part because most of its funding has come from local governments. Since word has gotten out about funding problems, the organization has raised about $6,000, but Executive Director Martha Graf says more is needed.
Graf asks people to register in advance by going to its website at http://www.kidsvotingmc.org, or call her to RSVP at 245-3414.
Walk for Strive
Strive will host its third annual Rollin’ On the River 5K Run and 3K Walk and Roll on Saturday at the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens amphitheater, 641 Struthers Ave.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $25 for adults and $15 for students and people older than 60. Ages 10 and younger are free. Registration includes a T-shirt, the activities, the race, food and entertainment.
Register at http://www.strivecolorado.org, at 950 Grand Ave., or Uniquely Yours, 443 Main St.
All proceeds will support Strive services for local children with disabilities and their families. Call 256-8612 for information.
