Briefs: White Family Funds November 18, 2008

• Friends, family and members of the community gathered on Saturday to move Mary White and her daughters into a different home. The move is the first of many steps being taken to help the Whites, who need a handicap-accessible home for McKenzie White, 14. McKenzie was paralyzed at age 6 after going into cardiac arrest during a school physical education class because of a then-undetected heart condition. The family has struggled to find houses to meet McKenzie’s needs and the house they had been renting until Saturday was recently sold. Friends and family have volunteered to raise money to build the White family a new home. As part of the group’s efforts, Fruita Monument High School student Ellen Gaglione has organized a fundraising dinner for 5–7 p.m. Thursday in Fruita Monument’s cafeteria. Tickets for the dinner are $7. For more information on the community effort to help the White family, call Mike Ruspil at 248-9771. Donations for the White family can be sent to Altursa International of Grand Junction CO Foundation, P.O. Box 904, Grand Junction 81502.
