Rotary awards grants
The Rotary Club of Grand Junction presented checks totaling nearly $6,000 to local charities and nonprofit organizations at its weekly meeting today.
The awards are part of the Rotary Club’s Robin Hood program, which awards grants to organizations that support the community through a wide variety of valuable services.
Boy Scouts received $1,000, Food Bank of the Rockies $2,000, Girl Scouts $400 and The Community Food Bank $2,500.
Additional awards will be presented in April. Organizations can apply for Robin Hood grants by calling Michael McCormick at 210-2246 or 589-4100.
Auction to raise funds for MOMS Club
MOMS Club of Grand Junction will have a silent auction from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Main Street Bagels, 559 Main St.
The auction will feature certificates for local businesses, theater tickets, crafts, original art, chair massages, wine and other prizes. Proceeds will go to educational opportunities for stay-at-home mothers.

Special Olympics fundraiser Saturday
A Special Olympics fundraiser is set for 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln Park Barn.
The event will feature dancing and singing groups as well as teams of Special Olympians selling refreshments.
Cost is $7 in advance and $10 at the door. Children younger than 5 will be admitted free. Proceeds from the Helping Hearts Hafla and Variety Show will stay in the Grand Junction area.
