Fall Fest fundraiser for Hospice today

The Atrium will have its Fall Fest fundraiser for Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at 3260 N. 12th St. The event includes a variety of booths, food, entertainment, door prizes and a silent auction. At 1 p.m., the Fighting Tigers martial arts children will present a demonstration.

Kissner to attend forum in Washington

Fruita Monument High School junior Reanna Kissner will attend the National Youth Leadership Forum beginning Tuesday in Washington, D.C.

Kissner was nominated by Fruita Monument teacher Linda Gallet because of her exemplary academic performance. During the six-day program, students will be introduced to challenging careers in areas such as in national security, intelligence and the diplomatic corps.

Food drive continues through Monday

The Habitat for Humanity food drive, celebrating World Habitat Day, continues through Monday.

Any nonperishable canned food can be taken to these drop-off locations: the Habitat for Humanity Restore Home Supply Center, all Mesa County Alpine Bank locations, Nick N’ Willy’s Pizza, Mesa Mall, Family Dollar on Orchard Mesa, Vitamin Cottage and Ace Hardware on the Redlands. Donations will benefit the Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies.

Nepalese cultural event, dinner Sunday

The Nepalese community in Grand Junction will have a Dashain and Tihar Celebration, featuring a cultural program and traditional dinner, from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the First Christian Church, 1326 N. First St.

The event includes greetings and meetings, with tea, soft drinks, snacks and sweets served at 4 p.m. and a welcome speech at 4:30 p.m. The celebration will be explained and followed by a cultural program at 5:30 p.m. Music will proceed the 7:30 p.m. dinner.

Web site is for G.I. Bill, emergency help

A Web site for military veterans about the new G.I. Bill and requesting emergency payments is available. Previously, requesting funds required traveling to the Denver Veterans Affairs Regional Benefits Center.

Checks to veterans using the Web site will be mailed within three working days. Eligible veterans should go to and scroll to the bottom for instructions.
