Brush fire gobbles 2 acres near Pear Park

A brush fire near the 400 block of Marianne Drive quickly spread across two acres of land on Monday afternoon before being contained by firefighters, according to the Grand Junction Fire Department.

Firefighters from the Grand Junction Fire Department and Mesa County Wildland Fire Team responded to the fire at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Dry, dense fuel and strong winds pushed the fire toward a nearby subdivision, but firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the edge of a canal, according to a statement from the fire department.
