Buescher and Suthers

It’s hardly astonishing that Bernie Buescher has found another position in state government, given his lengthy record of solid service for Colorado in various jobs under different administrations.

The surprise comes from the fact that Buescher — a Democrat, former secretary of state and former state lawmaker from Grand Junction — was named to a state job not by the Democratic governor, but by Republican Attorney General John Suthers.

Buescher will head a state services branch in the attorney general’s office.

One of the major reasons The Daily Sentinel endorsed Suthers in his re-election bid last year was that he has demonstrated he puts serving Colorado in the manner he deems best ahead of partisan politics.

In choosing Buescher — a Democrat, but also someone who is extremely capable and not hidebound by party labels — Suthers has demonstrated once again that he is remaining true to that principle.
