Burrito eating contest a campus favorite

Students square off in a burrito eating contest at Mesa State.

Qdoba sponsored a burrito eating contest for Mesa State College students as part of the Unity Fest celebration on campus Thursday afternoon.

More than 20 teams of two participated in a relay race to see who could consume two mighty burritos the fastest.

The winning team called themselves the “Average Joes” and finished in under four minutes. Winners Jan Frederick Mosnes, 18, and Jordan Lee Haslen, 19, said they have won several eating contests together and called it “easy.”

“I could still eat another one,” Mosnes said while rubbing his tummy.

Other contestants weren’t feeling the same way. Some found themselves sick from speed eating while others threw down the burrito in forfeit.

Onlookers laughed and cheered the contestants to finish. “It is just a good time,” Dana Nunn, public relations specialist for MSC said.

Unity Fest continues today at 2 p.m. and concludes Saturday night with a Luau on the Fine Arts Quad.
