Businesses to receive dividends

Many businesses in Mesa County will receive an average dividend of about $900 from their workers’ compensation insurance carrier.

In all, Pinnacol Assurance expects to return about $1.8 million to more than 1,900 businesses in the county.

Statewide this year, Pinnacol is distributing $41 million to more than 50,000 businesses.

Dividends will go to about 85 percent of policyholders and are based on the size of the employers’ premiums and claims costs between June 2009 and June 2010.

Pinnacol has returned more than $435 million in general dividends to Colorado businesses since 2005.

Pinnacol President and CEO Ken Ross said the dividends will offer some relief to businesses still caught in the throes of the recession.

“We hope it will help create more jobs and provide a boost to the state’s business climate,” Ross said.
