Capital idea: Conference gives citizens a look at D.C.
Applications are available now for a nonpartisan conference that allows Coloradans to interact with national political figures and learn more about federal legislative operations and how to impact public policy.
The 2014 Colorado Capital Conference will take place June 17-19 in Washington, D.C. Applications for one of the 100 conference slots that will be open to Colorado residents are due April 1.
The application can be accessed and submitted online through http://www.coloradomesa.edu/capitalconference/application.html or MarkUdall.senate.gov/COcapconf. Call 270-5594 to request a paper application.
The names of people chosen to attend this year’s annual conference will be announced April 17. Those selected must pay a nonrefundable $325 registration fee in order to attend and will be responsible for airfare and hotel costs. The registration fee will cover the cost of most meals during the conference.
Colorado Mesa University, the University of Colorado and U.S. Sen. Mark Udall are co-sponsoring the conference. Previous conferences featured interaction with senators from across the U.S. and both major political parties and secretaries and assistant secretaries from the federal Interior, Treasury, Postsecondary Education and Navy departments.
