Car thief takes Cadillac from 81-year-old man

Mesa County Sheriff’s Department vehicles are parked outside a pair of residences at 3088 F Road on Thursday, after a theft was reported. The Sheriff’s Department would neither confirm nor deny that the theft was related to an incident at 500 28 1/2 Road, during which a Cadillac was stolen from an 81-year-old man.

Grand Valley law enforcement agencies were looking Thursday night for a vehicle that was stolen from an elderly man earlier in the day.

Grand Junction Police Department spokeswoman Kate Porras said the 81-year-old man was in front of his house in the 500 block of 28 1/2 Road around 10:35 a.m. when a vehicle pulled up.

A Hispanic man got out and asked the man if he could mow his lawn or if the elderly man had any money to give them.

When the older man answered no to both questions, the Hispanic man walked into the elderly man’s house, grabbed his car keys and stole his 1999 Cadillac Deville, Porras said.

A man and a woman in the other vehicle also left the area.

Porras said the victim wasn’t injured and didn’t see a weapon.

The stolen Cadillac has a license plate number of 795-PCE and is chocolate milk-colored, Porras said.

Police had no further description of the Hispanic man and no description of the woman. The other man was described as white, in his early 20s, with short brown hair and a white tank top.
