CDOT promotes Eller to top spot for Region 3

David Eller

The Colorado Department of Transportation named a new director for northwest Colorado on Monday.

David Eller, a 19-year veteran of the department, has been promoted to transportation director for Region 3, a 12-county area that includes Mesa County.

Eller will oversee 465 employees and a budget of about $100 million for such things as engineering, maintenance, administration, traffic and safety.

The Grand Junction resident has been the program engineer for the west section of the region. He replaces Weldon Allen, who retired after a 35-year career with the department.

Eller began working for CDOT in 1991 as a design engineer in the Grand Junction office.

After earning his professional engineering license in 2000, he worked in the department’s materials unit as a pavement manager. Later he was promoted to program engineer, working in the Grand Junction office the entire time.

Eller and his wife, Gwen, live in Grand Junction with their two children, Justin and Jordan.
