Central High speech team No. 1 on West Slope

Central High School’s speech and debate team is ranked the highest of any team on the Western Slope.

The National Forensic League point system ranks Central sixth in the state behind Cherry Creek, George Washington, Denver East, Kent Denver and Lakewood high schools.

More than 40 Central students compete in public speaking, debate and creative performance categories. The team’s most recent victory was Saturday, when Central beat six other Western Slope teams at the Montrose Rendez-vous Speech Tournament.

The team will not compete again until a tournament in January at Palisade High School, and team members will host a tournament Jan. 22 and 23, the Warrior Invitational.
