Chamber looking to increase its membership
The Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual fall membership drive will look a bit different this year.
In the past, chamber board members formed teams and encouraged new and non-member businesses to join, Chamber Membership Director Shawna Grieger said.
“This year, a lot of people had fewer employees and to conserve time we have about 30 volunteers following up with non-members,” Grieger said.
The 1,000-plus member chamber has lost some businesses during tough economic times, Grieger said.
Nonprofits in particular tend to cut chamber membership when budgets tighten, she said.
But she’s also seen numerous companies return to chamber membership because they wanted to stay connected with other businesses.
“It’s almost a give or take any year,” Grieger said.
Businesses that join the chamber in October will receive two free passes to a Business After Hours event, a $15 voucher for any chamber events, and the new member will not have to pay a $35 processing fee.
The chamber has a membership drive each fall because it’s the time when many businesses prepare their budgets and plans for the following year and consider beginning or renewing membership, Grieger said.
