Child-abuse parolee arrested in sex assault
A Grand Junction man on parole for a felony child abuse conviction was before a Mesa County Court judge on Tuesday, accused of felony sex assault against a former girlfriend.
An arrest affidavit for Jona Wobick, 40, alleges he contacted his former girlfriend, a 52-year-old Grand Junction woman, in April after being absent from the woman’s life for more than a year.
The woman claimed that Wobick forced sex on her, even after she told him about a recent medical procedure and that she couldn’t have sex.
The woman told police Wobick was “intimidating” and that he also forcibly grabbed the woman’s head in an effort at oral sex, according to investigators.
“(The victim) said he was hurting her and she was telling him to stop,” a report reads.
A sexual assault investigation by a nurse allegedly revealed physical damage to the woman’s throat and capillaries in her eyes, confirming the woman’s story.
The nurse who examined the alleged victim told police the woman’s injuries “were the most significant of any she has seen before,” investigators wrote.
At the time of the alleged assault, Wobick was on parole related to a felony child abuse case in 2002.
He also was convicted in 2000 for aggravated assault, involving a child victim, police said.
Wobick declined to be interviewed by law enforcement related to the latest case, investigators noted.
He was issued a $25,000 cash-only bond on Tuesday, and his next court date is scheduled for Sept. 26.
