Children’s Place opening in Mesa Mall

The Children’s Place plans to coordinate its opening next month with Cabela’s in the Mesa Mall.

A publicly held children’s clothing company will open next month in Mesa Mall, meeting a niche need for the mall and marking a move into a midmarket for the retailer.

The Children’s Place “does fill something of a void in our merchandise lineup,” said Jammie McCloud, marketing manager for Mesa Mall, 2424 U.S. Highway 6&50.

The Children’s Place (NASDAQ:PLCE) has 947 stores nationwide, including several in the Denver area, and the move to western Colorado is part of an effort to diversify their retail base, McCloud said.

A lot of retailers are looking at midmarkets, as the western Colorado market is considered, “as strong growth markets versus larger markets that are already penetrated with so much retail,” McCloud said.

The Children’s Place, which went public in 1989, designs, contracts to manufacture and sells high-quality, value-priced merchandise under its proprietary “The Children’s Place” brand name.

The Children’s Place offers clothing for infants to children about age 12 at what is considered an Old Navy price point, McCloud said.

The Children’s Place will be three storefronts west of what will be the Cabela’s wing of the mall.

Cabela’s new store is to open May 20, and The Children’s Place is hoping to coordinate its opening with that of Cabela’s to “ride the positive wave of traffic,” McCloud said.
