Christian motorcycle group collecting toys, necessities for holidays
Members of the Christian Motorcyclists Association already are collecting toys and necessities for families in need.
The Christmas in July to Christmas Everything Drive is taking place through Thanksgiving weekend.
Road Capt. Kevin Riddle said he was inspired to host the drive after meeting a family with five children between the ages of 2 and 10 years old struggling to make ends meet.
He decided placing 17 collection boxes around town for items that could help families out around the house would help, and he decided to have a benefit concert, featuring John Bayley, at the end of the drive.
“Then at the end we’ll have Santa Claus come in on a motorcycle,” he said.
A place and time for the event has yet to be announced.
The Salvation Army and radio station 95 Rock are sponsoring the drive, and updates can be heard on radio stations owned by Cumulus. Proceeds from the live benefit concert will go to Catholic Outreach, Latimer House, The Salvation Army, Homeward Bound, The Rescue Mission, Habitat for Humanity and local food banks.
