City honors Bike Shop for being good partner
The Bike Shop received the 2010 Grand Junction Parks Partner Award on Thursday during the Parks and Recreation Department’s advisory board meeting.
The honor, which the department began awarding in 2008, recognizes outstanding contributions made to the Parks and Rec Department to support community livability and quality of life, according to a news release.
“It’s a personal presence,” Recreation Coordinator Stacy Pike said. “They provide services for our events, like the Highline Hustle. They provide monetary sponsorship as well. They are great cheerleaders. They are always there to help out.”
The Bike Shop, 950 North Ave., Suite 108, provides assistance to competitors in the Highline Hustle Sprint Triathlon, the Matchett Trail Run and the Jingle Bell Run.
“We have a fairly healthy community with an outdoor lifestyle,” Bike Shop owner Bryan Miick said. “To be able to be involved in those kind of events is great. The more events like that we have, the better the community is.”
The Bike Shop also provides prizes for some Parks and Rec events.
